TOTTENHAM suffered an u8.6 million loss in the second half of last year after writing off the value of Sergei Rebrov at u5.1m, it was announced today.

The Ukrainian was Spurs' record signing at u11m three years ago but was unable to force his way into Glenn Hoddle's plans.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy admitted the club had "learned lessons" from the expensive flop in the club's latest plc interim accounts to December 31 last year.

The u8.6m pre-tax loss compares with a u2.9m profit in the same period in 2001 although overall turnover increased by 11 per cent from u29.4m to u32.8m.

Rebrov left White Hart Lane on an 18-month loan to Turkish side Fenerbahce last month. The rest of the loss is made up of payments on Robbie Keane.

Wages increased by 8 per cent to u24.2m and this was put down to the arrivals of Keane and Jamie Redknapp in the summer. But the club stressed the ratio of player salaries to revenue remained unchanged. …
