Publisher Recognizes Yearbook; from St. Johns Country Day

The former staff of the St. Johns Country Day School yearbook, Chalice, was recognized by Taylor Publishing Co. for excellence in design and coverage. Only the top 5 percent of yearbook staffs are recognized. Yearbook editors were Kara Gilligan and Lauren Martin; the adviser was Beth Herzog.

JUNIOR HIGH

-- Chief Warrant Officer Scott Burgess, a teacher at Lakeside Junior High School and a U.S. Navy reserve officer, spoke to eighth-grade American history classes on his diving experiences. He focused on his dives to the USS Monitor, the Civil War ironclad. Last summer, he participated in dives that brought up the Monitor's engine and turret.[w/photo]

ELEMENTARY

Monday -- choice of barbecue chicken sandwich or hamburger on a bun, baked beans, pasta salad, lettuce and pickle or coleslaw, choice of fruit or juice.

Tuesday -- choice of tacos with beef and cheese or a turkey melt, Spanish rice, green beans, lettuce and tomato, choice of fruit and pudding with whipped topping.

Wednesday -- choice of biscuit with scrambled eggs and sausage or country fried steak with biscuit and gravy, grits, potato wedges, choice of fruit and apple quick bread.

Thursday -- choice of Italian dunkers with cheesy bread or shaved ham on a bun, tossed salad, steamed broccoli and choice of fruit.

Friday -- choice of turkey pita or fish sandwich, pasta salad, seasoned corn, coleslaw, choice of fruit or juice and sugar cookie.

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS

Monday -- choice of chicken sandwich, cheeseburger on a bun or tuna salad sub, macaroni and cheese; choose two from lettuce and dills, baked beans and choice of fruit.

Tuesday -- choice of tacos with beef and cheese, turkey melt or chicken salad on a bun, Spanish rice; choose two from green beans, lettuce and tomatoes, choice of fruit and monkey bread. …
