Police Seize Man Carrying Hammer near Marsha Road; 38-Year-Old Questioned over Killing of Student

A MAN armed with a hammer has been seized yards from the scene of student Marsha McDonnell's murder.

He was arrested after acting suspiciously in a street close to the road where the 19-year-old student was bludgeoned to death with a blunt instrument.

The 38-year-old man was held in Percy Road shortly after 9pm following a 999 call to police from a member of the public.

Scotland Yard said he was being interviewed today by detectives from the murder squad investigating the murder of Miss McDonnell.

He will be questioned about his whereabouts on the nights of that attack and two other assaults linked to the murder. His address, which is believed to be in the Hampton area,was also being searched this morning.

A police source said: "We are interested in what this man can tell us. All we know at the moment is that he was armed with an offensive weapon and he was in the right place for the attacks."

Miss McDonnell was hit over the head three times with a blunt instrument as she walked home in the early hours of 4 February.

She had been out with friends in Kingston and had got off a night bus in Percy Road, Hampton, and was a few yards from her home in Priory Road when she was attacked. …
