The Argyle Area Civic Council is sponsoring a hob nob and candidate forum from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at First Coast Baptist Church, 7587 Blanding Blvd. A straw vote will be taken.

More than 25 candidates have confirmed their attendance, said Bill Lewis, a council officer.

Candidates will have three minutes to address the audience and one minute to answer a randomly selected question from a candidate survey. Ted Hires, founder of the Justice Coalition, will emcee.

-- Vascular screening will be conducted in Avondale United Methodist Church's Fellowship Hall, 1651 Talbot Ave., from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 20.

It will feature the following screenings: stroke/carotid artery, $45; abdominal aortic aneurysm, $45; and peripheral arterial disease, $45. A package of all three is $99. An osteoporosis screening also will be available for $35. Cost of all four is $125.

Pre-registration is required and may be made by calling 1-800-407-4557. Credit cards will not be accepted at the screening, but MasterCard and Visa will be accepted if paying by phone, said Janice Buck, the church's media coordinator: Lifeline Screening in St. Petersburg is conducting the screening.

-- Mayoral candidate Matt Carlucci and Daniel Davis, who is running for the District 12 City Council seat being vacated by Doyle Carter, will speak at a meeting sponsored by the West Jacksonville Civic Association at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting will be held at Julian Barrs Community Center, 10151 Crystal Springs Road.

-- The Don Thompson Chorale will present a sacred and secular music concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1176 Labelle St. The concert is free to the public, but contributions will be accepted. …
