-- Willard**** * 1/2 Oddball Crispin Glover and hundreds of rats star in this remake of the 1971 movie. It's not for everybody, obviously, but it's better than you might think: a tongue-in-cheek B-movie that's eccentrically offbeat, in sort of a Tim Burton way. You could do far worse. PG-13.

-- The Quiet American**** * * 1/2 Michael Caine got a deserved nomination for his starring role in this pitch-perfect, evocative adaptation of Graham Greene's story of 1952 Vietnam. He's a burned-out journalist caught up in political intrigue and a romantic triangle with his Vietnamese mistress and Brendan Fraser's naive, friendly American. It's spellbinding. R.

-- Bringing Down the House**** * * 1/2 Steve Martin and Queen Latifah have plenty of comic chemistry in this audience-pleasing comedy. She breezes confidently through her role, while Martin is the funniest he's been in a long, long time. …
