Repackaged Nosak Reality Show Gains National Spotlight

TULSA - Paul Nosak's dream of stardom hits the national stage Thursday as the cable channel TLC debuts the first two episodes of Saw for Hire, his repackaged reality show.

Seeing promise in Nosak's original self-funded series Nosak Raw, which captured exploits of the Nosak Tree Trimming Service crew, the Los Angeles production firm Rive Gauche Television repackaged that series into six shows under its new banner.

The first two episodes of Saw for Hire air at 8 p.m. Central time Thursday on TLC, an affiliate of the Discovery Channel. TLC will air another pair of shows on Jan. 22, followed by single episodes the following Thursdays to finish its run over four weeks.

"This is a really interesting show," said Jason Bourgault, senior vice president of production for Rive Gauche and executive producer of the new show. "It's different. It's unique. It's not every day that you see a show about guys cutting trees. There are a lot of interesting characters."

Learning about Nosak Raw at a Las Vegas trade show, Bourgault looked beyond its sometimes novice production qualities to capitalize on its human elements.

"We saw something in Paul," said Bourgault. "He's got this drive about him. This show is so unique and different; I feel this is a show people will want to see."

Produced under contract in the fall and winter of 2007, the tree trimmer completed and aired 13 episodes of Nosak Raw, which drew strong ratings throughout the year.

"He did a very good job as far as the experience he had," said Bourgault, whose firm transformed the existing footage to high definition, re-shot some material last fall and added background interviews with many characters. "Paul gave us a good nucleus to work with. It was shot well. What we needed to do was repackage it in a format that would sell domestically in the States."

TLC moved on Saw for Hire fairly quickly.

"They were shocked that they got a national contract before they got an international," Nosak said of Rive Gauche executives. "They were entirely shocked and surprised and it was completely unexpected. …
