Article excerpt

A very special fashion event is coming up Nov. 4 and 5. Actually, one could call it a really, really special fabulous event featuring Judith Leiber designs. Those unique and costly, elegant and unabashedly extravagant handbags and accessories will be shown as a benefit for the Cardiac Arrythmia Research Institute of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Under the chairmanship of Brenda McDaniel and Stacy McDaniel, a collection of First Ladies Handbags, made for wives of U.S. presidents, photos and replicas from history, will be on exhibition and Judith Leiber will have a large collection of bags and accessories for viewing and for sale.

On Nov. 4 will be a private pre-party for donors and sponsors, featuring a private art collection - plus an opportunity to design your own Judith Leiber bag. On Nov. 5, the exhibit and sale will open at 10:30 a.m. at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. Leiber purses can bear a $3,000 price tag. A luncheon and program are planned at noon.

Luncheon reservations are $65 per person and tables for 10 guests are available for $650. Patron reservations, which include two invitations to the pre-party and two seats at the luncheon, are $500 per couple. All proceeds will further research on heart rhythm disturbances.

Marti Ferretti is honorary chairman of the benefit and Jane Harlow is patron chairman.

For information or reservations, call Pam Ivester at 271-1657.

'Friends' to meet

Members of Friends of the University of Oklahoma Breast Institute will meet for luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 18 at The Coach House. The guest speaker will be attorney Pru Little, Madill, who will be presented by Jane Harlow, immediate past president of the institute's advisory board.

Reservations may be made by calling Midge Lindsey at 843-6510, chairman of the Friends organization. Membership is $350 per year with proceeds benefiting the OU Breast Institute.

BOK Classic Golf

The Bank of Oklahoma Golf Classic on Sept. 22 will benefit two nonprofit agencies - the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma and the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City. This first-time tournament is one of many partnerships between the two agencies.

The tournament at Gaillardia Golf and Country Club will have tee times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will be played in a two-man best ball format, followed by an awards reception after each flight of the tournament.

Hole-in-one awards will include a Lexus auto, $10,000 in cash, a Rolex watch and a golf cart. Team sponsorships are available for $1,500 and sponsorship spots ranging from $250 to $5,000 also are offered. To participate in this tournament, call Sally Ray at the YMCA, 297-7753.

Vintage autos on view

A showcase of more than 30 vintage automobiles will be on view Sunday on the lawn at the Nichols Hills home of Carleen and Jerry Burger, an historic mansion built and owned by early-day oilman Frank Buttram. …
