Filings at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Oklahoma were up for the 10th time in 11 months in July.

Bankruptcy filings at the court totaled 1,170 in July, up 13.9 percent from 1,027 for July 2002. Filings for the first seven months of 2003 totaled 8,296, up 10.7 percent from 7,493 for the first seven months of 2002.

Honors for OBA president

Melissa DeLacerda, president of the Oklahoma Bar Association, will receive the American Bar Association General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section's Annual Bar Leader of the Year Award. She will be honored at the section's annual meeting in San Francisco on Friday.

She has practiced law in Stillwater since 1979, with a three-person law firm for one year and the remaining years as a solo practitioner until associating with D. Scott Pappas in 2001. She has been engaged in the general practice of law with a heavy emphasis on family law for the past decade.

DeLacerda was selected as 2002 OBA Solo Practitioner of the Year and is past president of the Payne County Bar Association. She served a three-year term as a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Client and as Diversity and Inclusion vice chair, Sole Practitioners and Small Firms Committee, for the General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section.

She is among the 50 Oklahoma women selected for The Journal Record's "50 Making a Difference" for 2003. The Woman of the Year will be announced during the Sept. 25 program at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

Henry makes appointments

Theodore "Ted" Logan, Midwest City, was appointed by Gov. Brad Henry to the State Board of Corrections for a term expiring March 15, 2005. He replaces Randy Wright, who resigned. Senate confirmation is required.

Scott Wesley Williams, Edmond, and Beverly Diane Coon, Edmond, were appointed and Kenny Monroe, Lawton was reappointed to the State Advisory Group on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for terms expiring Jan. …
