Sandra Day O'Connor, U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice, to Speak at Okla. City University

Sandra Day O'Connor, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, will give a public address and receive an honorary doctorate from Oklahoma City University at 4 p.m. April 12 at an academic convocation in the school's Kirkpatrick Auditorium.

The event is a part of Oklahoma City University's centennial celebration. Other events will include a powwow, the Oklahoma Centennial Book Festival and an official celebratory event in September: Celebration of the Century.

The April 12 academic convocation featuring O'Connor is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and tickets are required and must be requested in advance. Tickets are limited to two per reservation and are available from or from Shyla Hadzellis, special events coordinator, at or 521- 5197.

This university has a long-standing tradition of honoring those people who personify, uphold, and exemplify the strong academic and moral standards it sets for each of its students, said Tom J. McDaniel, OCU president. Justice O'Connor's seriousness of purpose and dedication to serving her country are but two of the reasons we will honor her.
