Moore Norman Technology Center Develops Second Campus

Article excerpt

Seventy-five acres, five buildings and 300,000 square feet just wasn't enough for Moore Norman Technology Center, located at Franklin Avenue and 12th Avenue NW in Norman. Next year, MNTC plans to open a second campus in south Oklahoma City.

The new Penn Campus is under construction on 65 acres at the corner of SW 134th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. When finished, the campus will include a 79,000-square-foot main building and a 14,500-square-foot business development center.

Construction began on the $15.7 million facility in April and the project is expected to be completed by early 2005. Oklahoma City- based Flintco is managing the project, which encompasses more than 40 separate construction contracts.

The new classrooms and lab space will be primarily devoted to teaching health care and computer skills - two areas for which there is currently a high demand for training.

Those will be more ongoing types of training for adults, allowing health care workers to meet continuing education requirements, said MNTC Superintendent John Hunter. And of course software changes on computers - all of that is constantly in a state of turmoil and flux and what works today doesn't work tomorrow on your computer.

The classrooms in the main building - about a dozen - will also be used for short-term classes in business and industry training, personal development and enrichment, management development and small business management. …
