It's haunting; it's wild and it's ghoulishly fun.

That's the billing for the annual Haunt the Zoo for Halloween event this week. From 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, rain or shine, the Oklahoma City Zoo invites families to don costumes and enjoy candy as the kids trick or treat among the various themed booths, festive props and carved jack-o-lanterns.

The atmosphere is safe for all ages. Each night starts with the kids being greeted by friendly mascot characters in the Zoo's Global Plaza. Then, they can travel down the pumpkin path to collect goodies from 21 booths, staffed by volunteers. The Oklahoma City Astronomy Club is setting up telescopes each night for star gazing.

You can have a photo of your child in costume -- or a family shot en costume -- by a professional photographer and order copies. All proceeds go to the zoo.

Admission for Haunt the Zoo is $5 per child for tickets pre- purchased or $6 each at the door. Admission includes an official treat bag. Accompanying adults, 18 years of age or older, will be admitted free. Stroller rental will be available.

Sponsors for this special family event include Thrifty Pharmacy, Allegiance Credit Union, Allstate Insurance, Bank of America, Brown's Bakery, Bob Moore Auto Group, Chick-fil-A, Dominion Exploration & Production, El Chico Restaurant, Fred & Mary Eddy Jones Foundation, Great Plains Coca-Cola, IBC Bank, Local International 1141 Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; KMGL/KOMA/ Metropolitan Library System, Masterfoods USA, McDonald's/V&B Enterprises, OZS ZooFriends, SBC Pioneers, OK 1st Chapter; Tinker Federal Credit Union, Tony Roma's/Pancho's Mexican Buffet and Wal- Mart.

Special note: The zoo will close at its regular 5 p.m. time each evening and reopen at 6:30 for the fun and games.
