Oklahoma Rig Count Falls Three; U.S. Tally Rises 12

The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in Oklahoma last week fell three to 147, the lowest level in six weeks.

Oklahoma's rig count for the week was down from 165 for the same week in 2004, according to a report from Houston-based Baker Hughes.

During 2004, Oklahoma's weekly rig count climbed as high as 175 for the week ended Aug. 6. The lowest weekly rig count in 2004 was 142 for the week ended Dec. 17. This year the highest rig count was 158 for both the last week of April and for the week ended Feb. 11 and the lowest was 146 for five different weeks.

The state's average active rig count for June was 150, unchanged from May but down from 168 for June 2004.

The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the United States last week totaled 1,370, up 12 from the previous week and up from 1,176 for the same week in 2004. …
