Two Chesapeake Execs Donate $1M Each to American Red Cross

Two of Chesapeake Energy Corp.'s top executives have written personal checks of $1 million each to the American Red Cross to help recovery efforts in areas hit by Hurricane Katrina, the company announced Tuesday.

The Oklahoma City-based company has donated $1 million as well, said Tom Price Jr., senior vice president of corporate development. And a special fund has been established to allow employees to contribute additional aid.

I'd like to express my deepest heartfelt gratitude for one of Oklahoma's leading companies and to its co-founders, Aubrey McClendon and Tom Ward, for their extraordinary leadership and generosity, Gary Marrs, board chairman of the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma, said in a prepared statement. There is an urgent need at this time, and it is encouraging to see a company such as Chesapeake step forward in a significant way to help fund what will most definitely be an extended and extensive recovery and healing period.
