Woman of the Year Profile: Nancy K. Hall, Ph.D., University of Oklahoma College of Medicine

Science seemed like a natural fit for Nancy Hall, who constantly asked questions and wanted to know about detail.

Hall received her bachelor's degree in medical microbiology from Stanford University in 1969. She continued to pursue her education, obtaining her master's in medical mycology from the University of Oklahoma in 1971 and her doctorate in veterinary pathology from Kansas State University in 1976.

She began her career as a professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1978 and added associate dean to her title in 1984. In 1994 and '95, she served as a visiting professor with the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Hall considers overseeing the selection, education and well- being of the future physicians for Oklahoma as her most significant professional accomplishment.

Over the past 20 years, this has involved over 2,250 individuals now providing outstanding health care for Oklahoma, she said.

Hall remains active with numerous organizations, including the American Society for Microbiologists, Medical Mycological Society of the Americas, International Society for Human and Animal Mycology, Association of American Medical Colleges, American Lung Association, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of Pathologists and the Oklahoma Academy of Science. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and involved with the Association of MD/PhD Directors; Group on Research, Education and Technology (GREAT); International Association of Medical Science Educators and serves on national accreditation teams for other medical schools.

Hall also currently volunteers her time as a trustee with the Oklahoma Board of Medicolegal Investigations and the Hospice Foundation of Oklahoma. …
