Woman of the Year Profile: Dahl L. Luttrell, Business Records Storage

As a young woman, Dahl Luttrell had plans to be a librarian. Instead, she has spent the last 26 years in the records management business and the last five of those years as owner and chief executive officer of Business Records Storage LLC.

Luttrell has a bachelor of arts degree from Oklahoma City University and a master's degree in organizational behavior from the University of Oklahoma. She received her certified records manager designation from the Institute of Certified Records Managers. Luttrell is one of only five Certified Records Managers in the state of Oklahoma and the only one to own a commercial records storage company.

She began her career at American Bank Systems where she consulted with banks to improve their filing systems and paper flow procedures for loan documentation. Because of her expertise, she quickly progressed to management and partial ownership of the business, which included the development and sale of bank forms and filing systems materials. She developed a computerized document tracking system to replace the manual system.

Luttrell, then executive vice president, decided to leave in 1989 after serving 10 years with the company to establish her own records management consulting business - Document Systems Inc.

Through this company, Luttrell began to offer her records management experience to other types of businesses in addition to banking. She maintained this consulting business for the next 11 years, often traveling to various locations throughout the United States to work with her clients.

In February 2000, she formed Business Records Storage LLC and purchased the assets of a commercial records storage center that had been in business since 1982. That gave her the opportunity to expand on her previous business to encompass the entire cycle of records: creation, active maintenance, inactive maintenance and destruction.

Even as an active woman business owner, Luttrell has managed to participate in numerous outside activities. …
