Alternative Fuel Distribution of Durant Signs Exclusive Distribution Deal with Earth Biofuels

Article excerpt

The developer of a biodiesel production facility under construction in Durant has signed an exclusive distribution agreement.

Alternative Fuel Distribution of Durant will distribute the fuel produced at the plant being constructed by Earth Biofuels. The biodiesel fuel will be branded Earth Biofuels.

We plan on having AFDC distribute our product to Oklahoma customers from our Durant production facility once it is online, said Tommy Johnson, chief executive of Earth Biofuels.

Construction began in June on the Durant production facility. Production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter.

Completion of the facility was delayed several weeks due to Hurricane Katrina.

The actual guts of the refinery are being manufactured in Mississippi, said Doug Jones of Apollo Resources of Dallas.

Apollo spun off Earth Biofuels into a public company but still owns 88.09 percent of the stock, Jones said. In over-the-counter bulletin board trading Wednesday, Earth Biofuels, trading as Meadows Springs, closed up 11 cents at $4.45. Apollo was unchanged at 43 cents per share.

Earth Biofuels has attracted celebrity attention. Actor Morgan Freeman was named to the company's board of directors in late September.

I firmly believe that alternative fuel supplies need to be developed to allow the United States to wean itself off of its significant dependence on foreign oil, Freeman said in a press release. Moreover, I feel that our development of alternative sources such as biodiesel fuel will help the environment, farmers, and the economy in general. I look forward to participating in the growth of this company as well as the alternative fuels industry.

Also named to the board were William O. Bill Lockett Jr., an attorney practicing in Clarkdale, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn., and Bruce Blackwell, the former president of three car dealerships in Jackson, Miss. The two other board members are Dennis McLaughlin, chairman and CEO of Apollo Resources and Tommy Johnson, CEO of Earth Biofuels. …
