Warren Clinic Merges with Springer Network

Tulsa's oldest multi-specialty clinic is being merged with Warren Clinic, an arrangement expected to galvanize referral relationships between Springer physicians and St. Francis Health System.

Warren Clinic will absorb Springer's central office at 6160 S. Yale Ave. and its 11 different clinics in Tulsa, Bixby, Broken Arrow, Owasso and Jenks.

Warren already has clinics throughout the Tulsa metro area and northeast Oklahoma.

The merger will create the largest private medical group in the state, with 210 physicians in 46 locations stretching from Vinita to McAlester to Stillwater.

Springer Clinic employs about 435 people, including 52 physicians that will now join St. Francis. Warren Clinic employs more than 150 physicians and had 33 clinics before the merger. St. Francis Health System employs about 800 physicians and nearly 7,000 people.

Ten to 12 employees at Springer were offered severance packages, and one redundant clinic in Owasso belonging to Springer will be closed, St. Francis officials said. Springer's other clinics could get some renovations or other improvements in the future.

Jake Henry, president and CEO of St. Francis, said Springer physicians approached St. Francis executives in August 2004 about working more closely together. The negotiations continued until Dec. 31 when a final agreement was drawn up.

They came to us and said they would like to sit down and strategically plan for the future, Henry said. There were financial issues. They thought their organization was worth a certain amount, and we had to do our due diligence and come to an amount.

I think the big thing for us, as a Catholic system, was that we wanted to collaborate with someone with shared values. We needed to assure ourselves it was the case.

Henry added, It's a good business move for us. Plus, it's a move with some folks we've been around with for 40-plus years.

Henry wouldn't say how much St. Francis paid to acquire Springer's clinic network because both parties have signed confidentiality agreements. …
