Rwandan President to Visit Oklahoma Christian University

Paul Kagame, president of Rwanda, is scheduled to speak at a luncheon at Oklahoma Christian University on April 26.

He will also speak to Oklahoma Christian at a gathering of Oklahoma Christian students and faculty.

Kagame will be awarded an honorary doctorate, and a scholarship program for Rwandan students will be announced at the luncheon.

He is scheduled to address a joint session of the Oklahoma Legislature that afternoon.

Kagame was invited to visit Oklahoma by Mike E. O'Neal, president of Oklahoma Christian, and Richard and Pat Lawson during their visit to Rwanda in 2004. Oklahoma Christian sent 12 students to Rwanda in 2005 and plans to send five students this summer, along with several faculty members and their families.

President Kagame has worked to bring peace and stability to Rwanda, O'Neal said. From all reports I've seen, he is really trying to advance their economy and root out all corruption in the government.

Kagame was born in Rwanda in 1957, but his parents soon fled to Uganda to escape the violence. …
