KAUT Begins News Program: Ernie Paulson to Join Cherokee Ballard as Co-Anchor on 9 O'clock News

A week into its existence, Oklahoma's NewsChannel 4 at 9 on 43 has a second anchor to join Cherokee Ballard in KAUT Channel 43's venture into nightly news.

Ernie Paulson, who is currently with KARK in Little Rock, Ark., will begin working at Channel 43 beginning June 28.

The half-hour program has been well-received, said Luanne Stuart, vice president of creative services for KFOR and KAUT.

A lot of people just can't stay up until 10 p.m. for their news, she said. This program is a Channel 4 production and has all the bells and whistles that Channel 4 has. It has Doppler radar and will benefit from the experience of the people at 4.

It's the beginning of a new direction for KAUT, Stuart said.

We're branding a new station image at Channel 43 and we'll be just as competitive as we are at 4, she said. The program started last Monday and was very smooth.

Stuart said the size of staff has been increased and another news truck purchased.

The investment was substantial, she said.

Several Channel 4 personnel will contribute to the Channel 43 program, including various weather and sports personalities. …
