Race for Navy's USS Oklahoma City Submarine Race had a Navy- style Test Launch to announce submarines are available for sponsorship at $20 each for an upcoming race. Mike McAuliffe, member of the Race for Navy Committee, and Admiral Greg Slavonic, Oklahoma City Navy League, supervised the test launch and pronounced these miniature subs seaworthy. Well, at least they're ready for the Oklahoma River to participate in Oklahoma Riverfest.

The miniature submarines are available by calling toll-free (888) 636-1006 or going online to Oklahoma Riverfest is June 17-18 (that's Father's Day weekend, should you need reminding) at the Chesapeake Boathouse on the Oklahoma River. Incidentally, there's lots of construction around there, with a detour if approaching from the north. The easiest way to reach the boathouse is from the south, taking SE 15th Street and Byers Avenue.

The individual submarines purchased will be entered in races both days, competing for 100 prizes, including a personal water craft provided by the OKC Boat Dealers Association on June 17. One of the major prizes is a trip for two to Hawaii for a seven-day cruise and to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the USS Oklahoma Memorial during Pearl Harbor Day on Dec. 7.

A portion of the proceeds from the Race for Navy USS Oklahoma Submarine Race on June 17 will benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, Oklahoma River Foundation and Chesapeake Boat Foundation. All of the net proceeds on June 18 will benefit the memorial.

Many Oklahomans, who have inquired about what they can do to contribute to the memorial, now know one way. Buy a Race for Navy submarine. Buy a lot of them.

If you've ever been to Pearl Harbor and seen the memorial there, you'll surely want to make the USS Oklahoma Memorial part of it. …
