Eight Oklahoma Companies Start Trading on New NASDAQ Tier

The Nasdaq, the one-time tech-savvy newbie of stock markets, now has its own list of 1,200 blue-chip companies. And eight of them hail from Oklahoma.

Touted as having the world's highest standards for inclusion, the Global Select Market replaced the Nasdaq's Global Market on Monday. The Nasdaq National Market, which includes approximately 1,450 companies, was renamed the Nasdaq Global Market. The Nasdaq Capital Market, with about 550 listed companies, had no changes.

Nasdaq companies are doing business on a global basis and we wanted to recognize that in the creation of our new listing tiers, Nasdaq CEO Bob Greifeld said in a written statement June 26. We believe that the best-quality companies will be attracted to the highest listing standards. The feedback we have received from Nasdaq- listed companies about our blue-chip market for blue-chip companies has been very positive. CEOs recognize that high-quality listing standards are linked to reputation and valuation.

Companies listed on the Nasdaq's new top tier must meet criteria listed in one of three standards matrixes, which set minimums for liquidity, earnings and market value. …
