Ada-Based Pre-Paid Legal Earnings Increase

Pre-Paid Legal Services' common stock rose 6.1 percent on Monday after the Ada-based company reported a 76-percent increase in net income for the second quarter.

The earnings increase was primarily from lower commissions paid during the quarter.

Pre-Paid Legal closed up $2.07 at $36.15 in Monday trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The 52-week range is $48.53 and $32.15. Market capitalization totals $544.1 million.

Net income for the quarter totaled $12.1 million, or 81 cents per diluted share, up from $6.9 million, or 44 cents per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2005.

Commission paid to associates during the quarter totaled $32.7 million, down from $38.8 million a year earlier. Costs and expenses for the quarter totaled $92.7 million, down from $95.2 million for the second quarter of 2005.
