Wilguess Goes Full-Time at OKC-Based Alliance Resource Group

Last year John Wilguess formed Alliance Resource Group, a consulting company for nonprofit organizations.

Wilguess operated his company on a part-time basis while keeping his day job as vice president of civic affairs at Oklahoma Christian University.

As of Tuesday, Wilguess left his job with Oklahoma Christian and will operate Alliance Resource Group on a full-time basis.

My time at Oklahoma Christian has been a tremendous opportunity, he said. Probably the most satisfying part was working with faculty and administrators in helping secure the largest foundation gift in the history of the university to benefit our science program.

In late July, the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in Ardmore committed $1 million for the renovation and expansion of Oklahoma Christian University's Herold Science Hall.

The renovation and expansion of Herold Science Hall, which began in May, includes the modernization of the existing facility and the addition of about 14,000 square feet of classroom and laboratory space. The entire project is expected to cost $5.6 million and is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2008.

The determining factor for Wilguess leaving Oklahoma Christian was gaining clients.

I have always been a strong advocate of entrepreneurship, so this seems like a natural move for me, he said. When we started this company last year I set a goal of a certain number of clients and when we reached that level, I realized the need to work with those clients full-time.

He will continue to work at Oklahoma Christian in an advisory role, said Mike O'Neal, president of the school.

John has a wonderful opportunity to pursue his dream of entrepreneurship with his company, the Alliance Resource Group, and we certainly wish him well, O'Neal said.

He is well-connected in the Oklahoma business and nonprofit community and has considerable expertise and experience in helping organizations with their development, O'Neal said. …
