Rig Count in Oklahoma Hits 13-Week Low of 186

The number of drilling rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in Oklahoma fell to a 13-week low for the week ended Friday.

The state's active rig count for the week ended Friday totaled 186, down five from the previous week but up from 156 for the same week in 2005, according to a weekly report from Houston-based Baker Hughes.

The last time Oklahoma's weekly rig count was less than 186 was the first week of July when 183 rigs were active statewide.

Oklahoma's weekly active rig count for 2006 peaked at 196 for the week ended Sept. 22. The lowest weekly rig count was 149 for the week ended Jan. 6.

Oklahoma accounted for 10.8 percent of the rigs active nationwide last week.

For the week ended Friday, 1,724 rigs were active nationwide, down from 1,744 the previous week but up from 1,481 for the same week in 2005. …
