Making Way for a New Generation: Jimmy Stallings to Take over from His Father at Enid-Based Envirotech

Article excerpt

When Jimmy Stallings was growing up in Enid, he would often ride around with his father to job sites.

His father, Robert L. Stallings, started Dublin Petroleum in 1980 after serving with the U.S. Air Force. In 1992, he started Envirotech Engineering & Consulting with a partner. After starting by providing services mainly in northwest Oklahoma, the civil engineering and environmental consulting company has expanded and provides services to public and private clients throughout the country from the headquarters in Enid and offices in Oklahoma City and Guymon.

Today Robert is CEO and Jimmy, who as a boy went to job sites with his father, is vice president and project manager for Envirotech and is being prepared to lead the company.

"We are going through a process where he is shifting to the top and I am shifting to the bottom," Robert said. "We are doing it over a period of time."

Currently, duties are divided.

"I focus more on the engineering side and he focuses more on the environmental side," Jimmy said.

Jimmy graduated from Auburn University in 1999 with a degree in civil engineering with an environmental emphasis. Robert, who grew up in Georgia, is also an Auburn graduate.

After graduating from Auburn, Jimmy moved to Atlanta.

"I did a lot of residential and commercial development work in Atlanta," Jimmy said.

He returned to Enid and joined his father at Envirotech in 2002 as principal engineer.

"We share a lot of the responsibilities," Jimmy said.

There are a lot of responsibilities to share. Envirotech's business segments include the petroleum industry, waste disposal design and construction, agribusiness, environmental assessments and permitting, environmental sampling and field services, geotechnical engineering and design, geotechnical and environmental drilling, construction materials testing, construction quality assurance and quality control, site development and municipal infrastructure design.

Services are provided by the company's 25 employees at the three locations and job sites around the country and contractors.

Envirotech got its start providing services to the oil and natural gas industry. …
