Star Students may enroll only for another week

The application deadline is approaching for the Courier & Press Star Students program, which recognizes high school juniors for academic, extracurricular and community excellence.

Ninety students will be recognized in a special section of the newspaper publishing this spring. The deadline is Feb. 12. Nominations are accepted for students attending public and nonpublic high schools in Southwestern Indiana, Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois. All nominations must be made online at Once a student is nominated, he or she must submit a short essay and three reference letters - one from a family member, one from the student's school and one from a community member. EvAnsvillE New York-based quartet to perform today at UE Anonymous 4, an internationally acclaimed vocal quartet specializing in medieval music, will perform a guest recital and lecture at the University of Evansville this weekend.

The group will perform at 12:45 p.m. today in Wheeler Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Anonymous 4 is based in New York City and has performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

The group is touring in celebration of its 25th anniversary, and members have appeared on radio and TV shows such as NPR's "All Things Considered," "Weekend Edition," and "A Prairie Home Companion," and A&E's "Breakfast with the Arts."

State police, UK Extension reach out to farmers

The Kentucky State Police/Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is partnering with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service to provide two regional 'Farmer Outreach' forums to discuss safety regulations, licensing requirements and driver qualifications and new legislation in effect for Kentucky farm operations. The meetings are 6 p.m. Monday, at the Hopkins County UK Extension Office, 75 Cornwall Drive in Madisonville, Ky., and at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Christian County UK Extension Office, 2850 Pembroke Road in Hopkinsville, Ky. UE concert series features opera selections

The University of Evansville Department of Music's First Tuesday Concert Series will present "Inspired by Opera," an evening of overtures, arias, and selections from the grand theatrical stage, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Wheeler Concert Hall on the UE campus.
