Evansville, Ind. Joseph D. "Jay" Kirkman, 59, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012, at his home surrounded by family.

Jay had worked as a salesman for over 35 years, beginning in 1975 with Niehaus Industrial, which later became Crown Incorporated. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Funkhouser American Legion Post #8. He was a member of Eagle's View Church, the Royal Rangers at the church and loved to play music at church services. Jay was a former board member of the German Township Fire Department.

Jay was devoted to his son, Mark's, baseball playing career, serving as a coach when he was younger and loyal and avid fan as his playing days took him to high school and college.

Jay knew no stranger and could always be found "working the crowd" wherever he was. He also loved dogs, especially his last dog, Brady.

Surviving Jay are his wife of 33 years, Becky (Hurst) Kirkman; a son, Mark Kirkman and Mark's girlfriend, Hannah Boots, both of Evansville; two sisters, Rhonda (Jerry) Wilson and Janna Hodges, both of Evansville; a brother, Dennis (Betti) Kirkman, of Valparaiso, Ind. …
