City Council Changes Names Two to Redevelopment [Corrected 02/19/ 12]

Jay Carter and Stan Wheeler were picked Monday night by the Evansville City Council for 1-year voluntary appointments to the Redevelopment Commission. The term will be the second for Carter, who also was chosen by City Council to serve on the Redevelopment Commission a year ago.

Carter and Wheeler were the only two candidates who attended Monday's meeting - the first for the new City Council.

Carter said in his pitch for the position that his achievement was not the completion of the Ford Center, but a woman who came to the Redevelopment Commission with an idea to open a refreshment stand. He said the entrepreneurial spirit of the woman inspired him to believe in the Downtown District.

"The fact that people want to invest their life savings, that stands testament," he said.

Stan Wheeler said he is an area coordinator for a carpenters and millwright apprentice program serving 28 counties in Indiana and another 24 in Kentucky. At-large City Councilman H. …
