Teacher Gets Creative with Classroom Netbooks

Rayna Brown has been a teacher in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. for 43 years. She has taught at Helfrich Park STEM Academy for the last 28 years and has seen many changes. One of the biggest of those changes is the use of technology in the classroom. Now that every student has a netbook, her approach to teaching has shifted.

She has worked to implement the netbooks into her classroom. This year she has had great success with the Web 2.0 tool Notaland.com.

For years, the sixth graders at Helfrich Park have done an interdisciplinary unit that involves a weekend trip to Land Between the Lakes. As part of the unit, the students in Brown's class research animals they may see on their trip.

In the past, she has had them create a poster using poster board. This year she used the web tool Notaland.com. By using this tool, her students were able to research an animal, find out information about the animal's habitat, find photos of the animal, view maps of the LBL area and curate a complete digital poster. …
