Chicago, Ill. William Otto Petersen, 85, was born on November 28, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois. He died on March 28, 2012, at the Kendal Retirement Community in Hanover, N.H. of complications from Parkinson's disease.

He grew up on Astor Street on the near north side of Chicago. He graduated from the Chicago Latin School in 1944, and then served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he completed his undergraduate and law studies at Harvard University. He practiced law in Chicago for over 40 years, first at The Northern Trust Co., then with the firm of Vedder Price P.C., working with a number of clients, including several prominent authors.

After many years as a consultant and director, he became an advisory director of the Gray Entities, including Locust Street Company, Inc. and Gray Farms, Inc. He and his wife, the late Jane Jordan Browne, of the Gray family, made many visits to the Grayville, Illinois, and the New Harmony/Evansville, Indiana areas related to personal and Gray family business matters. …
