Barnett Seeks Nod in 8th District One of 3 Democrats on Primary Ballot

Article excerpt

INDIANAPOLIS - Voters who pick up a Democratic ballot in the May 8 primary might look at the 8th District U.S. House race and wonder: Who is Thomas Barnett, the man listed first among three candidates for that seat? It's a good question.

He's one of two headscratchers who join former state Rep. Dave Crooks, who is all but certain to win the primary, on the ballot. The other is William Bryk, a Brooklyn, N.Y., bankruptcy attorney who has never set foot in Indiana.

"I've never met the man. It was kind of news to me that there was someone else running besides Dave," said Anton Neff, chairman of the Owen County Democratic Party - the county where Barnett resides.

He registered a campaign website - thomasbarnettforcongress.com - but has not yet launched it with any content.

He also has a Facebook page, Thomas Barnett for Congress, which 21 people have "liked."

According to his own Facebook account, Barnett was a carpet installer for RC Flooring from September 2010 until February 2012.

Since October 2011, according to his page, he has been an owner and operator of ValleyTowne Farms - a business without a website, and which is not registered with the Indiana secretary of state office's business services division.

At 26, he also claims to be the youngest candidate for federal office in Indiana's history.

"Official official official: I Thomas Barnett have formally declared my candidacy for the Democrat Nomination for Indiana's 8th District US Congress! Vote Thomas Barnett in May 2012! …
