Discount Card Promotes OKC Businesses

Coolgreens restaurant downtown has found a way to bring in more people who are on a budget, in part with a promotional discount card, said manager Ashley Coley. The locally owned company has five sites and serves freshly made salads, pizza and soups with ingredients from Thomas Brothers produce, also a locally owned business.

"We use as many local buyers as we can, from our produce down to our decor," Coley said.

Lydia Christine, the manager in training at the downtown restaurant, said the company wants its customers to support what they believe in, particularly the importance of boosting local businesses. More than 120 businesses in Oklahoma City are part of the Keep it Local OK promotion. The two-year-old campaign offers a card that provides discounts at more than 150 businesses across the state.

"It's good for us," Christine said. "It makes it harder for big businesses to come in and take our place."

About 20 to 30 percent of their customers use the Keep it Local discount card, Christine said. …
