IF YOUR KIDS' creative spirit is blossoming this summer, here are some time-tested craft recipes you'll want to try. If your child is with a baby sitter part of the day, share this collection of ideas to keep boredom at bay.

Finger Paints: Mix together 3 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 cup cornstarch in a saucepan. Add 2 cups cold water and stir over medium heat. (An adult should do this.) Continue stirring until the mixture is smooth and thick. Remove from heat. Cool.

Spoon the mixture into several sections of a muffin tin or small bowls. Add food coloring and a pinch of soap flakes or a drop of detergent to each portion. Stir.

Purchase finger-painting paper at craft and toy stores or economize by using freezer paper (available at the grocery store). Use the shiny side of the freezer paper.

Face Paint: Stir together in an empty yogurt container 1 teaspoon corn starch, 1/2 teaspoon water and 1/2 teaspoon cold cream. Add food coloring, one drop at a time. …
