WASHINGTON Audits Of IRS, Customs Turn Up Irregularities

Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, is summoning the heads of the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Customs Service to answer audits that show IRS snooping into taxpayer records and sloppy bookkeeping at Customs.

Glenn made public an internal IRS report that showed more than 350 IRS employees improperly browsed through tax accounts of friends, relatives, neighbors and celebrities and that six employees prepared hundreds, even thousands, of fraudulent returns.

At Customs, Glenn said, "they can't substantiate some of their accounts, can't verify accounts of what money went and where it went." AP

This contradiction was cited Tuesday by a psychologist hired by biological parents Ernest and Regina Twigg as evidence that the ninth-grader still thinks like a child and is not mature enough to decide where she should live.

The opinion was expected to be contradicted by court-appointed psychologists who said in a report that visits with the Twiggs would be devastating to Kimberly. AP
