Arthur Rhodes allowed three hits in eight-plus innings, and Mark Parent hit his second home run of the season as Baltimore extended its winning streak to eight games with a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers Monday night.

The Orioles moved into sole possession of second place in the AL East, a half game behind the idle Toronto Blue Jays.

The streak is the Orioles' longest since winning 10 in a row June 2-12, a stretch that ties Boston for the longest in the AL this season.

Rhodes (3-2), in his second start since being recalled from Class AAA Rochester on July 31, allowed one run, struck out eight and walked three. Mike Moore (8-6) gave up three of Baltimore's six hits in the fifth inning when the Orioles scored three of their runs.
