SCOOPS DU JOUR: The powers at Merc Bank have deemed that the lot on the northwest corner of Lindell Boulevard and Boyle Avenue will become a Merc Bank, replacing the one four blocks away. The Merc Bank on Grand Boulevard at Lindell has been sold to St. Louis University for a greenspace, and Merc doesn't want to desert the midtown area. . . .

The St. Louis Police Dept. will gain 22 new Chevys as a result of the financial woes of a law-enforcement agency elsewhere in the state. Meanwhile, the dept. has bids out to Chevrolet and Ford for additional wheels. . . .

And, some Chesterfield-ites are in a snit at the State of Missouri, which they say has hired out-of-town folks to clean up the flooded jailhouse. Are the prisoners too busy? . . .

County Councilwoman Deborah Kersting, D-6th Dist., who ran on family values and beat her incumbent last November, has sued her husband, William, a sheet-metal worker, for divorce in St. Louis County Circuit Court. They are the parents of seven children. "I'm sure there are a lot of women out there like this, but because I'm a politician this becomes public knowledge," said Deborah. "My job as a mom is to protect my kids from an unfortunate situation, and that's what I'm doing." Said William: "Hopefully, it's not over yet!" . . .

A farewell feed for outgoing U.S. Attorney Steve Higgins will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Marriott's Pavilion, hosted by the chiefs of the IRS, FBI, Secret Service, DEA and the U.S. Marshal's office, among others. Then, the following day, Higgins will clock in at the law firm of Thompson & Mitchell. . . .
