Abstinence Makes Heart Grow Fonder

Dear Percy Ross: I read that you would like to be able to say "no sex" instead of safe sex. Well, I'm the director of a care center where we deal with crisis pregnancy situations. We also counsel on chastity or abstinence.

I'm always amazed when we mention this to a girl. She is surprised to hear that it is an option - that if a boy takes her out to McDonald's, she doesn't have to have sex with him at the end of the date.

We teach that she is a special person and her body is her own. She doesn't have to have sex to be a whole person, or even to be a popular person. We speak in the public schools and also youth groups, Girl Scouts and others, and we are pleased with the response.

We are a nonprofit organization and work on a shoestring budget. What I would like to ask of you is $500 to purchase T-shirts to be given out free after our talks. I have one in mind: ABSTINENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER, and then it gives a definition of abstinence saying that, "I will refrain from drugs, sex and liquor in my young life. …
