Where is Jerry Clinton? And who is Andy Newman?

Those are the questions of the day for the St. Louis NFL Partnership.

Sources say that Newman, chairman of Edison Brothers Stores Inc., is in the process of becoming involved in the Partnership - the ownership group trying to bring a National Football League expansion team to St. Louis.

The extent of Newman's involvement remains unclear. One source told the Post-Dispatch that Newman is about to become point man for the Partnership. Under that scenario, Clinton's role might be reduced. Clinton replaced James Busch Orthwein as lead owner of the Partnership on Sept. 9 and has been searching for additional investors since then.

However, another source disputed the "point man" scenario, hinting that Newman's role in the Partnership might be that of a limited investor. Clinton is looking for several limited investors - perhaps three to five - to bring additional money into the Partnership.
