A group of Chesterfield residents and businesspeople have organized a committee to campaign for a proposal that voters will consider Nov. 2 to allow riverboat gambling in the city.

The group is called Chesterfield One: Committee for Economic Recovery. A co-chairman of the group is Mike Shanahan Jr., son of Michael F. Shanahan Sr., board chairman of the St. Louis Blues.

The group includes a former Blues player, Bernie Federko, and two former players for the St. Louis football Cardinals, Jim Otis and Keith Wortman.

Shanahan in a statement noted the damage the city sustained from the flood. "Throughout the crisis, our community worked side by side to battle the water. Now, we are standing side by side to harness the economic power of the river to help us finance the recovery of the city."

The group said it is seeking campaign contributions from three gaming operators who have expressed an interest in operating in Chesterfield. The three are Gold River's Spirit of St. …
