The Blues have placed Russian winger Vitali Prokhorov on waivers.

Prokhorov, one-third of the Blues' Russian experiment, will be assigned to their International Hockey League farm team if he isn't claimed by the time waivers expire on Wednesday.

Considering he's played only one game this season, and only once since suffering a shoulder injury last December, it's unlikely that Prokhorov will be picked by another National Hockey League team.

"He just hasn't played," Blues director of player development Bob Plager said. "He needs to play. We want to see what he can do.

"One thing about Peoria, they only dress three lines and one extra forward, so guys there get to play a lot. He'll get plenty of ice time."

Prokhorov, 26, will be the second of the three Russians drafted in 1992 to serve time in the minors.

Vitali Karamnov was sent down last season and was the surprise of training camp before landing in coach Bob Berry's doghouse last week.

Ron Sutter didn't make the trip to Chicago for tonight's game, although his recuperation from offseason abdominal surgery is coming along nicely. …
