Wings and Ambush Have Plenty of Reasons for a Surly Rivalry

The Wichita Wings could build a pretty good case for harassment against the Ambush.

First, the Ambush knocked the Wings out of the National Professional Soccer League playoffs in the first round last season. Wichita was the National Division's regular-season champion and the Ambush finished fourth.

Then, a week ago Friday night in Wichita, the Ambush rallied from a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Wings 12-11.

In that contest, the Ambush limited high-scoring forward Tatu to one assist. Also, the Wings lost stars Chico Borja and Dale Ervine to injuries.

So the Wings, 1-3 after Friday night's 23-11 win at Chicago, might have a score or two to settle when they play the Ambush tonight at The Arena.

The Ambush (3-1) shouldn't be in any mood to accommodate them. In the game in Wichita, the Ambush lost the services of midfielder Terry Brown for four to six weeks. He suffered a fractured bone in his knee.

The Ambush already was without forward Steve Maurer, sidelined because of back spasms. …
