Welcome to Weasel-Suit Wednesday here in the eye-opened spaces. To explain, we must begin today's program with a sad note from the sports world:

CAREY LLOYD, 60, a professional wrestler we better knew as "Freight Train" RUFUS R. JONES, died after suffering a heart attack last week during a hunting trip outside Kansas City, Kan.

Lloyd, as you surely recall, reached the pinnacle of his profession during the 1980s when he wrestled JIMMY GARVIN in a series of "loser wears a weasel suit" matches.

Weasel suit! Not even the legendary DOINK would be seen in such attire.


Utah Jazz President FRANK LAYDEN finally got revenge for the weasel-like treatment he received from Seattle coach GEORGE KARL during last season's NBA playoff loss to the SuperSonics.

Layden explained that he ran into Karl before Game 4 of the Utah-Seattle series and stopped to "congratulate them on a great season." Karl then told the media that he used Layden's "congratulations" to motivate his players.

"It was a cheap shot," Layden said. "I tried to be nice. I was sincere. Then, the next thing I know, it's in the paper that I didn't show them any respect and he used it to motivate his team. I said to myself, `OK, if that's how they're going to play, fine. I'll just bide my time.' "

Payback time came last week. Layden was a guest on a San Francisco radio show, where he gave his analysis of the Western Conference race.

"I told them Seattle had the best team in the league," Layden said. "I told them - top to bottom - they had the best material. I said, `In fact, if they have any weaknesses at all, it's the coach.' "

Motivate that.
