One Board Member in, Another out Burlison to Replace Bergen; Ellis Says He'll Be Leaving, Too

No sooner did the members of the Cottleville Board of Aldermen fill a vacant position on the board Thursday than they found out they have another alderman leaving.

The board appointed Rex Burlison, a resident and an attorney in O'Fallon, to replace Georgette Bergen, who represented the 2nd Ward before moving away from Cottleville. Burlison was not at the meeting Thursday. He was out of town and unavailable for comment.

Shortly after the appointment, Alderman Mitch Ellis, 2nd Ward, said he would be moving from Cottleville and would resign from the four-member board.

"This is my last meeting," said Ellis, who has served for nearly 10 years as an alderman and previously as a trustee. "I'm moving out of town."

Ellis said he was moving this weekend into O'Fallon only a few hundred feet away from the Cottleville city limits. He said he could not nominate someone to fill his position but asked the board to consider Jeanette Bennett, a member of the city Planning and Zoning Commission. …
