Marian Elaine Boyd, a retired Kirkwood School District music teacher and founder of the AIM Community Band, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 1994) at her home in Kirkwood after suffering from cancer for six years. She was 62.

Mrs. Boyd moved to the St. Louis area in 1969 and began working as a substitute teacher in the Kirkwood, Affton and Lindbergh school districts.

She became a full-time music teacher in Kirkwood in September 1980.

She also served as interim coordinator of music for the 1984-85 school year and established the elementary advanced band, which she taught until she retired in June 1992.

In 1977, while still working as a substitute in Kirkwood, she helped form the Association for Instrumental Music (AIM), a booster program organized by a group of parents, and the AIM Community Band. The band is open to any adult in the community, regardless of age or talent. The band has more than 70 members and performs two concerts a year. The band performs the first Sunday in March at the high school, and at the Greentree Festival in Kirkwood Park.

Mrs. Boyd has a bachelor's degree in music education from Webster University. …
