Doyle, Cowie Lead Ambush to a 17-4 Victory

Forward David Doyle scored three goals, and goalie Bill Cowie yielded only two third-quarter goals as the Ambush defeated the Chicago Power 17-4 in a National Professional Soccer League game Sunday.

Kevin Hundelt added two goals and two assists, and rookie Kevin Groark contributed two goals for the Ambush (8-6). Steve Maurer had the other goal.

The Ambush led 9-0 before the Power (5-11) got its first goal, a two-pointer by Steve Snow 11 minutes 42 seconds into the third period. Chicago's other goal was scored a minute later by Ken Snow, Steve's older brother.

Cowie, making only his second start of the season, had 15 saves. Hundelt helped out with four blocked shots as Chicago outshot the Ambush 29-28.

"Cowie made some great saves today," Ambush player-coach Daryl Doran said. "I think maybe one goal was his fault; he didn't come out . . . but the other goal was a handball (foul that wasn't called). …
