A blood drive will be held at Duchesne High School from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the performing-arts center of the school building, 2550 Elm Street. Last year, donors, mostly seniors at the school, donated 76 pints of blood for the American Red Cross to exceed its request by about 20 percent. Chemistry teacher Sharon Kriewall is coordinator of the drive, which is open to the public.

Informational meetings for new students interested in cheerleading at Francis Howell High School wil be at Francis Howell Junior High, 825 O'Fallon Road, and at Hollenbeck Junior High School, 4655 Central School Road, at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 15. A meeting for current students at the high school who want to try out will be at 2:35 p.m. Feb. 16 in the auditorium. For more information, call the sports hotline at 569-7566.

The speech team at Washington High School placed first in the recent Troy Invitational Speech Tournament in which 11 teams competed. Members who won first-place trophies are Macharr Baker, Mark Matthiesen, Scott Scrianko, Jessica Hannah and Carrie Bebermeyer. Second-place-trophy winners are Larry Rowley, Robin Glosemeyer, Jessica Hannah and Carrie Bebermeyer. Larry Rowley won a third-place trophy.

The 1993 edition of Francis Howell North High School's yearbook, Excalibur, has received a national All-American award as well as an All-Missouri award. Nationally, the book competed with other schools of the same size throughout the country. The awards were based on concept, coverage, writing and editing, design and photography. In the state competition, sponsored by the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association, the yearbook was judged against schools of similar size and was awarded 98 out of a possible 100 points. Kathy Sims is the yearbook adviser. The two co-editors were Julie Achurch and Amy Bremer.

At Wentzville High School this week, the National Honor Society will have its silent auction in school hours and at sporting events in the commons area. …
