Monty Williams scored 19 of his 27 points in the second half as Notre Dame (10-14) upset 22nd-ranked Marquette 68-58 Thursday night.

Jim McIlvaine's 13 points led Marquette, which fell to 17-7 with its second successive home loss. The Warriors lost to Cincinnati in Great Midwest Conference play Sunday.

Marquette was doomed by defensive lapses and poor free-throw shooting, going four for 10 from the line.

Notre Dame began the second half with a 26-15 surge, including 10 points by Hoover, for a 46-41 advantage with 10 minutes remaining.

Damon Key's bucket made it 46-43 with 9:26 to go, but Williams responded with two jumpers, sparking a 12-6 run that he capped with a jumper that put the Irish on top 58-49 with 4:15 remaining.
