The Admiral has lost its popular general manager. Lorenzo Creighton surprised the casino industry by resigning the position he had assumed on May 5.

Creighton will be the general manager of the Lady Luck Casino at Vicksburg, Miss. Lady Luck Gaming Corp. hopes to open that casino, which still has to be licensed and built, late this year.

Creighton could not be reached for explanation, but the delay and uncertainty in Missouri gambling - caused by a court ruling that led to the April 5 vote on a constitutional amendment - may have led him to seek more stable waters.

President Riverboat Casinos Inc., owner of the Admiral, said in a statement that "Mr. Creighton advised the company that the opportunity to go back to Mississippi and associate with an already licensed operator at a greatly increased salary presented an irresistible combination."

Creighton hadn't spent that much time in Mississippi before moving to St. Louis. He had served as executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission from the fall of 1992 until May 1993. …
