Fans Entice Seinfeld with Sign Language

Article excerpt

JERRY SEINFELD loves bookstores.

He said so in his book, "SeinLanguage."

"I still can't believe this book is in a bookstore," he wrote on page 1. "I love bookstores. A bookstore is one of the only pieces of physical evidence we have that people are still thinking."

So you'd think when a St. Louis bookstore asked him to stop by for a signing, he'd love it.

He'll be in town, anyway. He's at the Fox Theatre June 10 and 11.

Wrong. I talked with his "people," Jonas Public Relations in Beverly Hills. The response is, "There's no chance he will do the signing at the bookstore."

You wanna hear the rest of what they said?

Jerry, people stop by your place all the time on your show. Can't you drop by and see us for once?

We've asked nicely. We've begged. Heck, we've groveled.

Some 1,200 people have signed a petition to get Jerry Seinfeld to The Library, Ltd. bookstore, at Clayton and Hanley Roads.

That's more than the whole population of Wibaux County, which is in Montana, which is nowhere near Missouri. But you get the point. Lots of people are begging you, Jerry, to show up for a few minutes at a place you say you love.

How can you turn them down? Especially after what people wrote in the "Why he should visit us" part on the petition:

"Because Kramer couldn't come" - Fritz G.

"We paid ungodly amounts of money to see him in concert" - Heather M.

"Because I can't afford a ticket to the show" - Georgia H.

Those ticket prices seem to be a sore subject, Jerry. Did you know they're $36 and $51?

Believe me, the petitions are loaded with praise. Look here:

"He's really cool & hot" - Luke W.

"I want to bear his children" - Alicia.

"I have borne his children" - Janet.

"We love him!" - Valerie and Paul.

They love you, Jerry. As much as you love bookstores. And if you want love, you should see how the bookstore staff feels about you. …
