ILLINOIS EAST ST. LOUIS Police Investigate Killing Of Man

East St. Louis police are investigating the killing of a man found shot to death outside a vacant building in the 1100 block of Russell Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, Stephen J. Embrich Jr., 40, lived on Saxtown Road, south of Millstadt. He had been shot once in the back of the head. Detective Evan Kyle said police were conducting interviews but had yet to come up with any suspects.

Passers-by noticed the body, lying in a trash-strewn area, about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and notified police. Deputy St. Clair County Coroner Albert Ransom pronounced Embrich dead at the scene. Ransom said he had been shot within a few hours before he was found.

A woman from Frontenac has purchased a colonial-style mansion and 30 acres in O'Fallon, Ill., that had been vacated by Kristi M. Vetri, a former mayor of O'Fallon.

The woman, Janite Lee, had submitted a bid at an auction of the home and property in December that had been rejected by bankruptcy trustees as too low. But the purchase price of $387,500 was later negotiated by the auctioneer, Rick Kohl, and the deal was closed this week, Kohl said.

He said he understood that Lee planned to move into the home and sell part of the property for development.

The sale of the home and property winds up the bankruptcy of former Arkansas business tycoon Phillip Lynn Lloyd. Vetri bought the house and other property with money lent by Lloyd. In a settlement with the trustees, Vetri agreed to the auction of the property in exchange for the dropping of all other claims against her. …
